MIAMI
SKY-PEPPER
06 / 2020
Located in Downtown Miami The Claude Pepper Federal Building currently serves as a Government immigration office. Its Brutalist closed off façade hides away from Miami’s dynamic charisma. Sky-Pepper proposes a vertical eruption of adventurous program that will forever change the Miami skyline.
As the city’s continually clutters in the horizontal realm, the Sky-pepper offers a new perspective for vertical urbanism. While still maintaining its facade, the building combines outdoor and indoor programs that engage with Miami’s culture. The program includes extreme sports, retail and entertainment all interconnected in an exuberant display of innovation. The hyperscale of the building in its complex organization creates an urban quarter of a new kind.
Sky-pepper combines various methods of sustainability including wind and solar energy harvesting that will provide fuel for its operations. An interconnected train station knits the building with the surrounding city infrastructure to promote public transportation to lower carbon emissions. The combination of all methods aspires to set a precedent for Miami’s future development considering its susceptibility to sea level rise and unhalted development.
